Tanya Gatlin, President

CCTC Committee Chair, Publicity & Newsletter Committee Chair

I graduated from Oklahoma Panhandle State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. I was very involved with the theatre on-campus and could not wait to get my hands dirty with Fremont Civic Theatre. My story with FCT began in 2004 as the assistant director for Much Ado About Nothing. I had just moved to Fremont County and could not wait to get involved! I have since directed Postcards, the 2006 Christmas Variety Show, A Piece of My Heart, and co-directed And Miss Reardon Drinks a Little. The show that probably touched my heart the most was A Piece of My Heart. I am very excited about FCT’s participation and involvement in CCTC. I believe we can bring much home to Fremont County and expand our audience with the things we learn at CCTC. I am honored and proud to be involved with a community theatre that has such a rich and beautiful history as FCT does.

I began acting with FCT in 2005. My FCT performances include: A Christmas Carol, And Miss Reardon Drinks A Little, Life is Short, Postcards, and The Family Secret. I joined the board in June of '06. I was very honored to have been recognized as an All-State Actor at the 2007 CCTC Festival. I also served as the producer for FCT's variety show An Old Time Radio Holiday Extravaganza, which brought in over 1,000 lbs. of food for Fremont County's Loaves & Fishes.

I am a graphic and web designer by trade, and those skills have determined my primary role on the board, including providing this web site and creating other marketing materials for FCT.

I have been involved with Fremont Civic Theatre for about 15 years. Originally I was acting (Unsinkable Molly Brown, Fools, Mousetrap, Midsummer Nights Dream as well as a couple New Year's Eve) but recently I have been more involved with behind the scenes with set construction, sound, lights, etc. This is my 5th year on the Board, doing a 3 year stint as President. Currently I am Treasurer as well as Chairman of the Fundraising committee.

I have lived in Canon City for almost 14 years, and have had lots of fun appearing in several FCT shows:  Nunsense, Godspell, Spoon River Anthology, and The Sound of Music.  I am excited to be serving on the FCT Board, and hope to “give back” in a small way to the group that has given so much to me and to our community.  I am a musician and a writer, and co-owner of a small specialty publishing company.  I also have lots of fun at my day job – school secretary at Garden Park High School.

I am a New York native, but have found my home right here in beautiful Canon City. I arrived here in 2001 after leaving a coordinator's position at Johannes Skola in Stockholm, Sweden. Among my administrative duties I was proud to serve as drama coach for the bi-lingual elementary program and directed Peter Pan and a few musical follies with a focus on childrens individual talents.

I have been involved in theater most of my life all through my school years in productions of Hello Dolly, Mame, West Side Story, and Bye, Bye Birdie.

As my daughters went through school, I was often was the assistant director of Middle school and High school productions or helped with prop and set design.

It was such a delight to find out about this wonderful organization and I too couldn't wait to get involved. I recently was in the cast of The Sound of Music and am involved with the New Years Eve production Reunion at Hippie High.

I am looking forward to serving on this board and having a focus toward the young in our community.

Technical Committee Chair

I have had an interest in theatre dating back to early childhood.  My first interest in FCT began in 1987 when I found out about the organization and began attending productions.  Shortly afterwards, I attended a board meeting to find out more about FCT, and before I realized it, began serving on the board in 1988.  I served on the board for several years, including a term as Vice-President.  After a hiatus of a few years, I was once again, asked to serve on the board,  and have been serving since September of 2006.  I have strived to gain and increase my theatrical skills by attending numerous workshops as well as being involved in various performances.  I have worked set construction and props, stage crew, technical, as well as performing and directing.  Some of the plays that I have been involved with include:  acting in and directing The Last December, providing tech support for Life Is Short, directing Alone Together, performing as Captain Horster in An Enemy Of The People, and a few other productions either on stage or back stage.  I also produced and directed The Little Shepherd Boy for the LDS church.  I am a Fremont County native.

I have been an FCT supporter for over 15 years and a FCT Board Member on and off for over 8 years. My love is musical theatre and comedy. I recently directed Everybody Loves Opal and prior to that A Bad Year for Tomatoes. I am thrilled about the opportunity of directing The Sound of Music in October, 2007.

I am a Cañon City native, living in Cañon till the age of 5 and moving back about 20 years ago. I am the owner of Absolute Accounting and have been married to Marty (also a FCT Board Member) for almost 30 years.

I joined the FCT Board of Directors in June of 2007, and am currently serving as the production assistant for Beauty and the Beast.  I have also served on other community boards.  I feel that the opportunity to be involved with live theatre in the local community is a great benefit for all, and I hope that others will join and support FCT.

I was born and raised in Springfield, MO. After high school, I served four years in the United States Marine Corps where I attended the Tri-Service School of Music, and was a member of the Marine Corps Band. After my service I moved to Colorado, and in 1998 my family relocated to Fremont County.

I currently teach Vocal Music and Orchestra at Florence High School. I also play oboe in the Southern Colorado Community Band. I love theatre and have been involved in numerous productions both on stage and behind the curtain. I am very glad to be on the Board for FCT and hope that my experience proves to be an asset.

I attended Pacific Coast Baptist Bible College where I majored in Piano Performance and minored in Vocal Performance. I have worked a number of different occupations including private piano teacher, school teacher for both private and public schools, and church minister in youth and music ministries. I have directed and produced over 15 musicals, from youth musicals, adult concerts, and seasonal cantatas. I also directed and starred in my own local, religious TV broadcast in Texas.
My involvement with FCT started last year when I was “tricked” into acting in the production of And Miss Reardon Drinks a Little. It was a great experience for me and I was deeply honored to have been voted on by the members of FCT as “Best Actor” for the 2005-2006 season. Looking back on the time since “Miss Reardon…” I guess I really haven’t had to have my arm twisted too much, since in the last 15 months with FCT, I have performed in five productions, served as the assistant director for the first annual FCT variety show, and served as the musical director for The Sound of Music. Drama has become one of my new passions and I really look forward to a long relationship with FCT as a board member as well as with future productions.

Skyline Committee, Tech Committee

My interest in performing started in 1941, when, at age 5, I recited a poem about a broken clock on a kid's radio program----WLDS Jacksonville, IL.  In 1953 I had  a short Saturday show on the same station, and appeared in the High School Junior Play. I was in a number of other plays in high school and college, including a one-act play that made it to State in forensics competition.  In 1960, I began doing recitations of Robert Service poetry, which I have built into an on-going, and much expanded show.  It was my performance of "The Cremation of Sam McGee" in the 2006 FCT Talent Show that led to my involvement with the local theater group.  I am a retired Mechanical Engineer and Remodeling Contractor.  My family has been in Cañon City for 100 years.  I came back in 2004, when I sold my Wisconsin business.  My 3 sons and 3 grandsons live in Milwaukee.  I belong to a number of Volunteer Organizations locally, and serve on the Board of 4 of them.  For years my dream has been to turn the Skyline Theater into a Performing Arts Center.  Now I have the opportunity to work toward making that a reality.

Membership Committee, Publicity/Newsletter Committee

I was born in Denver, CO and have lived in Cañon City for over 4 years.

I have had an interest in theatre going back to my high school years in Southern California. I was an understudy for many productions but I worked the “behind” the scenes and enjoyed that just as much if not more sometimes. I am a musical production “junkie” and after seeing The Sound of Music I wanted to be a part of the FCT.

I have experience in event planning and fundraising and wish to bring this experience to the FCT to promote the best kept secret in Cañon City.

I have two grown children living in the Denver area and one grandson who is the light of my life. I have a very supportive husband and one of the most beautiful Chocolate Labs one could ask for. I work part-time for the Royal Gorge Association of REALTORS®.

I look forward to my tenure on the FCT Board of Directors.
